This past weekend I did a 3-day intensive (and BOY was it intensive) virtual Tony Robbins training called “RPM” (Rapid Planning Method) about how to “Master Your Time and Design Your Life.”
It was a lot of time to take a good, hard look at the past and the future, both reflecting on past choices and making more important choices moving forward. Like any good coach, he asked a lot of questions, and some of them were HARD.
Having the uninterrupted space to do that gave me a chance to get clear on what I want in all aspects of life, identifying priorities, mental blocks, systems, and how to plan so I have time for what (and who) matters most.
The life plan I’ve come up with is one that both excites me and, frankly, intimidates me.
My vision – both personal and professional – is BIG.
I need to tune out (nay, crush) that voice inside that whispers sabotaging thoughts like,
- Maybe you should aim lower just to be safe.
- Are you so arrogant to think you can make that big of a difference in the world?
- Are you really trying to serve others, or do you just want to feel important?
- Sure, you’ve been in business for 15 years, but you’re not a “real business person”
- Achieving goals like that is going to be too hard.
- You’re not ready. You’re not an expert. It’s not possible.
- There’s a lot of risk; what if you fail?
- Just be more “realistic.”
But I also learned with unquestionable clarity the importance of having things like:
- An expert coach to ask those hard questions and help me get crystal clear on what I truly want
- A supportive group of equally motivated peers to hold me to ever-higher standards
- Access to the right resources and tools to do what I need to do as efficiently and effectively as possible
- Help developing the skills I need to get to the next level
- The support I need to stay confident in my vision and in myself, and excited about my vision every day.
Big goals and visions can be scary, especially when you don’t know where to start. And lately I’ve been encountering more and more execs who are at that crossroads, trying to find the next career opportunity, role or mission that will make them excited to get out of bed every morning.
That’s a huge part of why I have recently launched the “Quantum Leap: Executive Transition” group coaching program.
It’s simple: 90 days to gaining the knowledge and skill to get clear on four things:
- What you really WANT.
- Where to FIND it.
- How to ASK for it.
- And How to GET it.
If you’ve frequently found yourself thinking:
… then drop me a line for more info and to see if you’re ready to take the Quantum Leap with us!
One of the other things I got clear on was that I’m going to take the whole month of August off from putting out new “Speaking to Influence” podcast episodes.
It's a time to reflect on the show, all we've achieved with it, and what direction we want to take with it moving forward. We’ll return with all new episodes in September.
But that means now is a great time to go back and check out some of the absolutely amazing interviews you’ve missed along the way, like Cindy Lewis whose episode hit #37 on the Apple Podcasts ranking in business and management podcasts – that’s incredible!
Of course, I also always enjoy being on the other side of the mic, so to speak, and being on other people’s shows, and this week is especially exciting because I got a chance to take some of my own advice!
I had the privilege of being a guest on Joanna Kleinman’s show, “Dethroning Your Inner Critic.” (And really, just by the title, don’t you already know you need to hear it?)
Our topic was all about breaking through mental blocks and limiting beliefs.
We discussed the transformative power of shifting our mindset from “What if” to “How can I serve?”
And yes, this applies as much to people in leadership roles as to those who are not.
Best of all, in the spirit of my own recent breakthroughs, there are a few reflection questions I’d like to “pay forward” to all of you:
Reflection Questions:
- In what areas of your life or work can you offer genuine value and service to others? How might focusing on these opportunities enhance your sense of purpose and fulfillment?
- How do you currently balance external validation with your own inner passions and motivations?
- Reflect on a recent communication challenge you faced. How might adopting a “How can I serve?” mindset have changed your approach or outcomes?
Want some more guidance on how to answer some of these questions? Tune in to our conversation on “Dethroning Your Inner Critic.”
Remember: The fastest way to get what you want is to help others get what they want!
