The Deep-Down Secret to Confident Public Speaking

I'm one of those “crazy” people who genuinely loves public speaking. But I know I'm in the minority. That's why each week, one of the questions I ask my guest on the Speaking to Influence podcast is to share some advice on how to speak with confidence, even when you don't feel it.

My guest this week, Jeannine Lisitski, the Executive Director and President of Women Against Abuse, answered ‘the $64,000 question' with the million-dollar answer. If you can follow her advice, it is guaranteed to lead you to victory every single time.

Simply put, she shared how she came to the revelation that people simply needed to hear what she had to say, and she had a duty to take herself out of the focus, and give them what she knew they needed. You can hear how she did it.

Nowhere is this more important than when fighting for the basic rights and safety of others, as Women Against Abuse (WAA) does every day, serving over 11,500 women per year in their efforts to end the scourge of domestic violence.

How can an organization like WAA communicate and operate overall in a pandemic? Tune in here to find out. Or watch the whole conversation on video here.

In case you missed it, last week the tables were turned, and I got to sit on the other side of the proverbial desk as a guest on Muhammad Siddique's video podcast, Growth Hacking Secrets. In particular, if you're an entrepreneur, or if anyone has ever said to you, “Hey, you should start your own podcast!” then don't miss our conversation as he is doing a mini-series on the role of podcasts in business development. You can check out the video here.

If that sounds like you, then I have an even bigger gift for you: A link to register for Podfest Global Summit, from March 1-5 that is seeking to break the Guinness World Record for number of unique attendees to a single virtual event — aiming for 10,000!

I'll be speaking on opening day, Monday 3/1 at 2:30pm ET on “Finding Your Podcaster Voice: How to Speak so People Want to Listen.” And truthfully, whether or not you're ever on a podcast – as host, guest or otherwise – you should tune in… after all, who doesn't want to learn to speak so people actively want to listen?

And last but not least, this weekend packs a “one-two punch”: This coming Sunday is Valentine's Day, a day that gives us an extra reminder to tell people just how much we appreciate them. Then Monday (okay, not technically the weekend) is my birthday, which is just as much fun to celebrate.

That's why, as a token of my appreciation for you, I have a special gift for you. The simple fact is that the world shouldn't have to wait until the pandemic is over to recognize how amazing you are! If you don't feel like your confidence, expertise and leadership shine through on video conferences as clearly and brightly as they do when you're in person, then visit virtualinfluence.today and enter promo code LOVE2021 to save 20% off of my course Virtual Influence through 11:59pm Monday 2/15.

You can use it to give the gift to someone else you want to help succeed, or do what my cousin Donna used to call “be your own best boyfriend (or girlfriend)” and give the gift to yourself. Why? Because a camera shouldn't stand between you and your true power. Teach *it* how to love you too!

And my birthday wish? I always appreciate a 5-star podcast rating and review on iTunes, and/or a new subscriber on the show's YouTube channel. Spread the word and share the love!

Here's to your success,

Laura
